In this spectacular mixed media lucite sculpture by Wyland, a mythical mermaid revels in the turbulent sea, alongside an ancient sea turtle. Indeed, Wyland’s masterful craftsmanship and engineering seem to beckon the viewer to play alongside this siren of the sea. “Mermaids have many associations with the sea,” Wyland says. “Sailors would imagine seeing them in storms or around shipwrecks, or other times falling desperately in love with them. I wanted this sculpture to explore a moment with a mermaid sharing in the joy of her underwater world.”
